Where are you from?

I am from Jacksonville, Florida.

Please describe an experience (or 2) that helped you discover/ cultivate your interest in the mathematical sciences.

When I look back at my time in grade school (and undergrad), the mathematics classroom is the place that I felt the most comfortable, the safest, and the happiest. These feeling made me want to do mathematics as much and as often as possible.

What is/are your most proud accomplishment(s) in regards to your career in the mathematical sciences?

Creating the Mathematicians of Color Alliance at Iowa State. It has been a success in terms of recruiting and retaining students. We will be graduating 4 Black PhDs this year.

What is/are your most proud accomplishment(s) in regards to your personal life?

Teaching my daughter algebra. As I have started work on projects related to equity in math education, I have started to learn that giving the knowledge of mathematics to our children is a gift of empowerment and love.
