Where are you from?

I am originally from Dallas Texas.

 

Please describe an experience (or 2) that helped you discover/ cultivate your interest in the mathematical sciences.

I was always good with numbers and puzzles. However, originally I wanted to be an accountant. The school where I chose to attend, Spelman College in Atlanta did not have an accounting degree, so mathematics was the next best thing. I also found that I was extremely good in the subject and that allowed me to help others in mathematics.

 

What is/are your most proud accomplishment(s) in regards to your career in the mathematical sciences?

I have several proud accomplishments. Obtaining both my MS and BS in Mathematics. Being a College Professor of Mathematics for over 20 years. Taking that math degree into a career in engineering specifically cybersecurity.

 

What is/are your most proud accomplishment(s) in regards to your personal life?

Opening my own business, AMS Academic Solutions in 2011 which stemmed from my love of mathematics.

 

Please share some words of wisdom/inspiration.

Embrace the things that you are good at. As a young girl, it was not expected that I would excel in the math and sciences because we’re not supposed to. But now, I say take these subjects and run with them if you have a passion for them.
